DepicT Research

The Date

This short film is about a first date and shows that even though everyone has their own expectations, what will most likely happen during the date will be completely unexpected.
The film is aimed at teenagers (as while you're a teenager you will most probably go on a first date) and is helpful in calming the nerves of someone who is anxious about experiencing this for the first time.
There is background music as well as sound effects included in this short film. One of the sound effects is a burp. The burp is asynchronous sound, because even though we know that the guy burped we don't actually see him burping as the camera is on the girl while he is doing so. The background music is non-diegetic sound as there is no clear reference to a radio, it's just a smooth calming sound to set the romantic scene.
Another sound effect is the dinosaur screeching. This screeching is synchronous sound, because you can see the dinosaur moving its mouth.
In this short film there are a few different shot types, One shot type used is a wide shot. A wide shot shows the landscape as well as the subject. This shot type was used to establish that these two people are on a date in the middle of a scenic field. Another shot type used is a close up. A
close up is used to show emotion and that is successful done in this short film, as the close ups are of the two peoples faces smiling but also showing a little sense of awkwardness.
I liked this one, because it shows the realistic awkward feeling young people have on their first dates. Then the comical twist, which was quite unexpected, reinforces the fact that most things don't go as you planned they will, but that's okay.

Tape

I think that this short film is aimed at people who take the TV and film industry for granted. It shows the mundane work of the person how puts all the film together to project onto a large screen for people to enjoy. Many people don't even think about how much work and money goes into making the hour and a half film they paid £6.99 to watch. This short film sheds light on that.
All of the sound in the film are noises that you'd hear if you were actually in the room watching the man do his work. Therefore the noises in the film are synchronous sound. All of the sounds in this piece were not put in during the filming process. They are all natural sounds that occurred during the filming process and have been used to emphasis the repetitiveness of the man job.
During this short film extreme close-ups were used a lot to show what the man was doing in detail. Throughout the film the close ups are repeated as he repeats the job and this adds to the mundane feeling of doing the same job over and over again.
I liked this one, because the its simple but its well shot. It hasn't got any fancy effects or editing, its just simple. There isn't anything to reinforce the mans job, the repetitiveness speaks for itself.

The Peace of Wild Things

I think this piece is aimed at people who understand the beauty of the world and can emphasis with the journey a man took to find a balance in his life and while doing so he became surrounded by the nature.
There is a dialogue in the form of a voice over in this film. A man is reciting a poem that is reflected in the shots of the film. There is also a calming song playing along side the voice over that emphasizes the relaxing vibe you are welcome to experience if you just embrace nature. Both the voice over and the song are non-diegetic sound, because neither of them are in "the world of the film."
During this short film there are a mixture of extreme long shots and wide shots. Both of these shot types show off the natural world around us and allow the poem to be reinforced by the beautiful landscapes surrounding us.
This short film has a strong element of true and natural beauty and that's
why I like it so much. It takes you out of the everyday life, it take you out of the city, away from the building and the pollution. It takes you to the natural world that hasn't been manufactured by man. It was filmed in black and white, I like this because black and white films have an era of class and elegance and it reflects this onto the natural world.
